Applications

Description

The XLM furnaces are multi-purpose gas fired box furnaces. They are uniform in temperature and feature accurate digital controls and a single proportionally controlled burner with a 50:1 turn down ratio for accurate control. The burner maintains stoichiometric gas/air ratios. The XLM furnaces reach 2100º F (1135ºC). Connected gas pressure can be as low as 4" W.C. Electrical requirements are 120 volts, 15 amps. Firing with gas can be more economical than firing with electricity. In addition, the circulation of the hot gases promotes good temperature uniformity without the use of high temperature fans. The burner can be adjusted to run lean to provide a slightly reducing atmosphere (although this can not be precisely controlled.) These furnaces are excellent for ceramics processing and most metallurgical work where precise atmosphere control is not required. They are particularly useful where fumes need to be vented from the furnace, such as in wax burn out work. The single 'package' type burner makes them an economical choice in a small to medium size furnace.

COUNTERBALANCED GUILLOTINE VERTICAL DOOR
The furnace door is mounted on a guillotine type vertical track. The door rides in the track, which pulls the door away from the furnace seal as soon as it begins to open vertically. The door is attached to the counterbalance by heavy roller chain. A hand crank, normally located on the right side of the furnace, effortlessly raises and lowers the door. An automatically engaged safety latch holds the door in the up position until manually released by the operator. A minimum of 3-1/2" refractory to refractory seal is provided.

ELECTRIC MOTOR OPERATION FOR VERTICAL DOOR
The counterbalanced door can also be operated by an electric motor. This has the advantage of precise positioning at various points in the travel of the door. Also the door does not have to open all the way before closing. Includes a safety torque limiter to protect against jams. It is much slower than the pneumatic door operator.
FLOOR MOUNTED DOOR SWITCH
A floor mounted dual foot switch is provided. This controls the up and down motion of the door.
FLOOR MOUNTED PNEUMATIC DOOR CONTROL
A floor mounted valve is provided which is foot operated. This controls the up and down motion of the door.
JIC CONTROL OPTION
This includes a NEMA 12 control cabinet, all oil tight switches and a panel mounted fused disconnect switch. Zone switches if included are percentage timers.
ON SITE START UP AND TRAINING
An L&L factory technician will review and check out customer’s installation, start up and burn in furnace, and train the operators.
PNEUMATIC OPERATION FOR VERTICAL DOOR
A pneumatic cylinder can be added to the vertical door. This raises and lowers the door instead of a hand crank. This is controlled by a hand or foot operated valve. This switch controls both the up and down motion of the door. An adjustable cushion is built into the cylinder to prevent damage to the furnace seal as the door closes. In addition, the speed of the door motion is adjustable. The cylinder is high quality and is repairable if necessary. Included in the system are the oiler, filter and air regulator. 40 to 60 PSI shop air is required.
SPECIAL HEARTHS AND LOADERS
Castable piers, silicon carbide, alloy hearths, load baskets and serpentine alloy hearths are available. Hydraulic lift fork type loaders are available.
TUBES AND RETORTS
Alloy retorts made of 304, 330 or 601 alloys, typically with water cooled “O” ring seals as well as ceramic and quartz tubes are available.
